Solar Energy

Access to energy no longer simply means access to lighting and television.  With the advent of smart mobile phones, it now means global connectivity, access to knowledge, jobs, education, and more. Therefore, energy justice becomes all the more indispensible in a 21st century urban context. Many informal settlements lack access to the grid, and those that are close to the grid are being connected to an already overburdened system. Ikhayalami works with communities to implement solar energy systems that provide access to basic energy needs and, where the grid is accessible, such solar systems are designed to be able to feed excess energy into the grid.
