Nolingwe Creche Upgrading

Location: Kosovo Settlement, Philippi, Cape Town - January 2015

 Project Type: Creche Upgrading

Project Description: Though it served over thirty children, before Ikhayalami got involved in Nolingwe creche was in desperate need of upgrading.  The structure was poorly constructed, and was a health and safety risk to the children.  In addition to the ever-present threat of collapse, the structure frequently leaked during the rainy Cape Town winters, creating a damp, cold environment.

Ikhayalami was able to get involved with Nolingwe in collaboration with Life Child, an organization started by Life Church focused on supporting orphan and vulnerable children.  First, our build team worked to clear the structure.  Next, they leveled out the extremely uneven ground to create a firm foundation for the creche.  Then, they built a new, fully upgraded structure for the creche, a 6x7m room with dividers in the middle and a toilet outside.
